System Update l March 5, 2013

Below is a list of features, updates and fixes that we plan to include on V110, with estimated completion date of March 5, 2013

Update:  Removal of the 30% Page Replace Limit
You asked, we listened...we were told that the 30% Page Replace limit was too restrictive,  so we've removed the limit completely!   This should give you increased flexibility if your workflow always results in last minute changes or if you've missed a major problem that occurs across all pages of your Flipbooks after it has gone active.

New Feature:  Legacy Support for Windows Mobile Devices (including Surface RT)
The new Windows touch screen devices don't support the WebKit browser standard so our Mobile platform was not working on these new devices to start.   We are now going to deliver a legacy version of our Mobile platform so readers on these devices can access the content instead of seeing a Flash error.  Although readers won't get the full experience that Mobile 3.0 delivers, they will at least have basic functionality to access content.  Please let Support know if you find Windows devices that are not loading this legacy version.

Update:  Change PayPal Payment Success Screen Language
The language on the Paypal Payment success screen got a tweak to now read:
"Thank you for subscribing!  Please be sure to check your email for a validation link."
Bug Fix:  Problems with Long Flipbook Names
The Application will now enforce the 200 character limit and avoid the bug where it appeared you could edit a Flipbook name to longer than 200 characters.

Bug Fix:  Google Analytics Concern with Mini Flipbook code
Fixed a bug with the Mini-Flipbook code where a Google Analytics constant was not being passed properly.

Bug Fix:  General Improvements with Banner Logo and Website Link
Performed some general clean up on the functionality of adding Banner logo/website links.  Includes better messaging when invalid URLs are used for the website link.

  •
  • V109-2758 Update:  Metrics - Increased Date Range Limit
We heard your feedback on the initial 180 day date range limit and have removed the limit completely.  NOTE that your Metrics query may time out if it is too complex .  If you see the Application timing out on your request, please reduce the complexity of the query (fewer Folder/Issues, fewer Metrics or smaller date range)
  •

  •
  • V109-2809 Update:  Page Editor - Faster Hide of Bottom MessagingWe heard feedback that the new messaging system on the bottom of the Page Editor was displaying for too long and getting in the way of normal workflow.  Any bottom messages will now hide after 2 seconds.
  •
  • V109-2808 Update:  Create Issue Wizard - White Transparent Background During File Transfer

  • Minor aesthetic change here where we'll show a white transparent popup in the background while the file transfer popup is displaying, instead of the darker transparency.

System Update l Feb 19, 2013

This article will outline the items that are currently planned for our next Application Version update. Each Version update is assigned to a numerical Version ID (eg V101) and each item in the update will have its own Item ID for future reference. (eg V101-3456)
The timing and specifics of all Application Version updates are subject to change.  Items may be added or delayed as we approach the estimated date.  To stay on top of all changes, please subscribe to our Application Version Update Forum to receive notifications right in your inbox!

Below is a list of features, updates and fixes that were included on V104 which was completed on February 19, 2013

  • V104-2707 Update: Page Editor - Minor Improvements
We've  done a bit of housekeeping on the Page Editor screen
    • We're now showing the other indexing options (Autolink, Batch Update and Page Replace tools)in the main Page Editor area, rather than the hidden top of page which was accessible by the "show menu" button
    • The "show menu" button is now more discrete and smaller on the top right of page
    • General improvements overall in use of space and warning/error messages

Below is a list of items previously planned for this update that were moved to a future Version update:

System Update l February 13, 2013

Below is a list of features, updates and fixes that were included on V1.03, completed on February 13, 2013:

  • V103-2205 New Feature:  Video TutorialsYou will have access to a right side Tutorials button within your Application Portal.
  • V103-2520 Bugfix:  Toolbar Email Share - scroll not working properly - iPhone 4
We have fixed a problem with the scrolling on the Email Share popup for folks using iPhone 4 devices.
  • V103-2613 Update:  Color Picker Popup on Text Box Click
Since we made the color selection text box un-editable, some folks would try to click to try and update the hexadecimal color code, causing confusion.  We will now open the color picker if that text box is clicked where the color code can be manually entered.
  • V103-2168 Update:  Select Default Flipbook Zoom Level for Folder/Issue Override
The  Desktop Flipbook has 5 levels of zoom, with the previous default always set to the middle level 3.  You can now let you select your own default zoom for Folder and Issue Override.  The default, if not manually changed, will continue to be level 3 (reading mode)
  • V103-2463 Update:  Page Editor Placement Box and the "new" Text Location
Previously when creating a new placement, the "new" text appeared within the zone box, sometimes obscuring the content underneath making it difficult to place precisely.  That "new" text now appears above or below the box so you can better fine tune your placements.
  • V103-2653 Bugfix:  Firefox Users Unable to Mouse Click to Focus Cursor in Various Edit Folder Text Boxes
When using the Firefox Browser there was an issue with clicking on the Custom Embed  text box among others, where the cursor could only be moved using the arrow keys.  This is now fixed.
  • V103-2327 Update:  Removal of Flipbook Close (X) ButtonThe Flipbook Close Button (X) will be removed entirely from the platform.  There were many natural situations where the close button did not function.  Going forward, end-users always have the native browser window/tab close buttons to use to close the Flipbook

System Update l October 10, 2012

Below is a list of features, updates and fixes that we expect to implement on October 10, 2012

NOTE: The timing and specifics of the below items are subject to change
  1. New Create Issue Wizard
  2. Support for iFrame on Mobile Devices

1. Create Issue Wizard - Upload from URL, Dropbox or Box.com!

We've made creating an Issue even easier by giving you a step by step wizard AND in addition to selecting your PDF from your computer you'll be have these options for pulling in your file from external sources!
  • Import from URL:  Just enter the address of your PDF hosted elsewhere
  • From Dropbox: New Integration allows you to login and authorize your Dropbox account, navigate your folders and select your PDF files
Click here for more info about Dropbox
  • From Box.com: New Integration allows you to login and authorize your Box.com account, navigate your folders and select your PDF files
Click here for more info about Box.com
The great thing about these 3 new options is you won't have to wait for any files to upload.  The file transfer will be done in the background and you can continue to work in other areas of the Application while your Issue is created.
Just click on any of the easily accessible "Upload PDF" buttons throughout the Application and the new Create Issue Wizard will popup and walk you through the steps below:

Step 1: Choose your File source

For Dropbox and Box.com, you'll have to authorize those accounts to complete the integration which is remembered on your account.

 Step 2:  Settings

Step 3: Options

2. Mobile Platform support for embedding within iFrame

Our team has worked hard and found a way to deliver our mobile platform within an iFrame!
Previously mobile users would see a tappable image to open the Issue in another window but now the Issue will simply display within that iFrame.
This will allow your users to remain on your main website while navigating your Digital Editions!

System Update: 08-31-2011

We've updated our system again with some great additions!

Google+1 Page Widget Helper

You can now integrate the fastest growing social sharing network into your digital editions with the addition of Google+1 page widgets.

Using the page editor>page widgets, enter a URL to share, and choose the layout of the button and end users will be able to share that URL from a page of your Flipbook Edition pub.

NOTE: Currently Google+1 is not supported on mobile devices. This lack of support is currently Google's decision, you can find more information on this subject here:

Forced Vectorization of PDF pages

When you upload a PDF, our system breaks down the objects of each PDF page and rebuilds a SWF page for view on the Flipbook Desktop Flash experience. Our system tries to find a happy medium between quality of conversion and file size to ensure optimal performance.

Sometimes this means our system needs to rasterize (convert to image copy) complex areas of the page, which sometimes produces less than optimal results (ghost lines, font display problems, pixelated areas of pages not seen in)

We have now implemented an option you can turn on/off at the title level, which will tell our system to force to convert those vector objects, within acceptable limits to make sure file sizes don't get to large and affect performance. This should lead to crisper lines on your vector graphics and less conversion problems.

This is a private beta phase feature so if you do not see this option, please contact support who can turn it on for your account.

The Force Vectorization option can be accessed by (refer to below screenshot):
  1. Edit your title and go to Advanced>Parser Defaults
  2. Select Checkbox "Force Vectorization to a maximum page size of" and choose your maximum size from the dropdown menu.
    • You can choose from 400K to 1MB
    • This size defines the maximum page our system will try to create to render all vector objects
    • If the attempt leads to a page that is larger than the max size defined, the system will simply convert the file as it normally would (rasterizing complex areas)
  3. Vectorization Engine
    • Choose the standard engine as a default
    • Choose the alternate beta engine if you continue to see conversion problems with the standard vectorization engine. This engine references a difference conversion library that may help in some areas.

IMPORTANT NOTES ON FORCED VECTORIZATION:
  • The forced vectorization tool will only apply to future uploads only (new PDF uploads or page replaces)
  • If you initially see problems with an upload, you can delete the issue right away to get the license back and retry with Vectorization turned ON
  • You can also perform page replacements (up to 30% of total pages) with vectorization turned ON to fix any conversion problems
  • If you don't want to force vectorization any more, simply UNCHECK the "Force Vectorization" checkbox

Improved Viewer for Print/Download

Now when you choose to print or download select pages, we've made it a lot easier for users to select the pages they want
  • The current page viewed in the flipbook will be auto selected in the page selection thumbnail view
  • Page numbers display below the thumbnails to make it easier to find the page of interest
  • NOTE: There is still a limit of 24 pages for direct print and download select pages

As always, we encourage your feedback...
